The Radiotherapy Centre was initiated in October 1994. We are among the first private hospital with Radiotherapy Services in the southern region of Malaysia and we have achieved more than 25 years of clinical experience on cancer treatment.
Overview
The Radiotherapy centre is led by four full-time radiation oncologists and supported by a group of highly trained medical professionals including three Medical Physicists and five Radiation Therapists.
It is equipped with a comprehensive range of medical equipment including CT and PET-CT simulator, treatment planning system, linear accelerator and Tomotherapy Radixact with the capability of performing three-dimensional (3D) conformal radiotherapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT).

Tomotherapy Radixact X7
Tomotherapy Radixact X7 is one of the most innovative and precise radiation therapy systems available to control and destroy malignant cells with high intensity radiation. It enables doctors to more efficiently and effectively deliver precise radiation treatments to patients.
The first truly complete IGRT/IMRT solution, Tomotherapy combines integrated CT imaging for exceptional treatment accuracy with a first-of-its-kind helical treatment delivery platform that uses patented beam-shaping technology to precisely target tumours while minimizing impact on surrounding healthy tissue.
It is the most revolutionary innovation in the history of cancer treatment with its 360-degree rotating gantry and moving couch, completely redefining the standard for individualized and precise treatment of tumours anywhere in the body – while creating a new paradigm for patient comfort and quality of life.
Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT)
VMAT is one of the most advanced and sophisticated external beam radiation therapy treatments currently available which establishes a new standard for radiation therapy treatment speed and dose reduction to the patient. With VMAT, single or multiple radiation beams sweep in uninterrupted arc(s) around the patient, dramatically speeding treatment delivery. Doctors can use VMAT with complete or partial arc(s) to reduce treatment times from eight to twelve minutes required for “conventional” radiation therapy to as few as two minutes.
Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
IGRT with three-dimensional volume imaging technology integrated into treatment systems increases the precision of VMAT. This enables physicians to visualise the tumour target at the time of treatment delivery to maximise the radiation dose to the target and minimises exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.
Notes for Patient
Patient may need to undergo a CT or PET-CT simulation before radiation therapy is carried out. CT or PET-CT images produced from the CT simulation will be used to formulate a customised treatment plan for each patient.
Thereafter, radiation therapy is administered externally via linear accelerator in regimented doses. During treatment, patient is placed comfortably on a treatment couch. The treatment, which lasts about 15 minutes, is painless. Radiation therapy is given five days a week while the whole course of treatment varies from one to seven weeks depending on the size, location and type of cancer.
