MAHKOTA MEDICAL CENTRE LAUNCH MALAYSIA’S FIRST JAPANESE ROBOTIC-ASSISTED SYSTEMS TO ENHANCE TERTIARY CARE STANDARDS FOR PATIENTS
Melaka, 23 September 2025 – Mahkota Medical Centre (MMC) proudly marks another milestone in advancing healthcare innovation with the official launch of the hinotori™ Robotic-Assisted Surgery System, the first of its kind in Malaysia.
Developed in Japan by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Sysmex Corporation, hinotori™ brings together over five decades of robotic expertise and world-class medical technology. With its high-definition 3D imaging and robotic arms controlled from a surgeon’s console, the system is designed to reproduce a surgeon’s delicate hand movements with exceptional precision.
At Mahkota, hinotori™ is set to transform surgical outcomes in specialties such as urology, gynaecology, colorectal, and general surgery. Patients benefit from a minimally invasive approach that offers:
- Greater surgical precision
- Shorter recovery times
- Less post-operative pain
- Reduced risk of complications
RT. HON. Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Bin Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka, highlighted the significance of this achievement:
“The Hinotori Robotic-Assisted Surgical System marks a new era in surgical precision and efficiency. It has been successfully implemented in 87 hospitals in Japan and Singapore General Hospital since 2024. Today, Melaka proudly becomes the first in Malaysia to introduce this advanced system. I strongly believe that advancements in healthcare, such as the Hinotori™ System will be a game-changing opportunity to position Melaka as a leading medical tourism destination and a centre of excellence in healthcare innovation. This remarkable journey would not have been possible without the dedication, expertise and hard work of Mahkota Medical Centre and HMI Medical, its healthcare team and all partners such as Sysmex who have brought this vision to life and meet the growing demands of modern healthcare while offering world-class treatment to both local and international patients.”
Stanley Lam, CEO of HMI Malaysia, added:
“As patient needs continue to evolve, we remain committed to advancing care through the adoption of cutting-edge technologies that deliver improved clinical outcomes. This milestone aligns with our strategic vision of becoming a leading smart hospital and reflects our ongoing dedication to patient-centric, value-based care. With the introduction of hinotori™, we are proud to bring best-in-class robotic surgical technology from Japan to Malaysia, ensuring our patients have access to the latest innovations across both our hospitals.”
Already in use across 87 hospitals in Japan and Singapore General Hospital since 2024, hinotori™ has been approved by Malaysia’s Medical Device Authority (MDA). Its arrival at Mahkota strengthens the hospital’s role as a leader in digital and smart healthcare innovation, complementing initiatives such as the Next-Gen Smart Ward launched earlier this year.
With the introduction of hinotori™, Mahkota Medical Centre continues to redefine the standards of tertiary care in Malaysia—bringing world-class innovation closer to home, for both local and international patients.
