Mahkota Specialist Hospital Unveils Refreshed Name And Brand Identity As Cross-Border Healthcare Grows In Melaka

MELAKA, MALAYSIA, 15 OCTOBER 2026:Mahkota Specialist Hospital (“Mahkota”), formerly known as Mahkota Medical Centre, has unveiled its refreshed name and brand identity featuring the HMI Spark, aligning the hospital with HMI Medical’s wider healthcare network across Singapore and Malaysia. The refreshed identity reinforces Mahkota’s connection to HMI Medical while building on more than three decades of healthcare heritage and its established reputation for quality care among local and international patients.

The adoption of the HMI Spark marks the next step in connecting HMI Medical’s healthcare brands across the region as cross-border healthcare demand grows. For patients and partners, the shared identity provides a more recognisable link between Mahkota and the Group’s integrated healthcare network, reflecting a common commitment to quality and care.

Sparking change across four priorities to shape the future of healthcare

The HMI Spark represents HMI Medical’s ambition to deliver More with Care by bringing together four essential elements of total care: physical, mental, social and personalised. These reflect the Group’s commitment to caring for people’s physical health, understanding their mental and emotional needs, personalising care to each individual, and connecting with the communities in which they live.

Formed by four converging “more-than” chevrons, the Spark symbolises HMI Medical’s ambition to continually find better ways to care for patients. This ambition is brought to life through four priorities:

  • More expertise: Strengthening clinical capabilities, specialist knowledge and medical technology to deliver high-quality, personalised care.
  • More ways to care: Expanding services, specialties and care settings to address a wider range of healthcare needs, from prevention to treatment and recovery.
  • More connected experiences: Connecting expertise, services and care settings to create a more coordinated healthcare journey that is easier for patients to navigate.
  • More trusted care within reach: Making quality healthcare more accessible and affordable, giving individuals and families greater confidence in their care choices.

Ms. Teo Chin Yee, CEO of Mahkota Specialist Hospital, said the refreshed brand identity comes as Mahkota enters its next phase of growth, with the development of a new hospital block to expand capacity and strengthen its specialist and tertiary care capabilities, and reflects the ambition to build a more connected healthcare ecosystem as cross-border medical travel grows across the region, particularly between Malaysia and Indonesia.

She said “the HMI Spark represents our commitment to continually improve how we care for our patients. As we invest in Mahkota Specialist Hospital’s next phase of growth, we are expanding not only our capacity, but also our clinical capabilities, technology and the overall patient experience. Being part of HMI Medical’s shared identity reinforces Mahkota’s place within a trusted regional healthcare network, enabling us to build on our strong foundations while connecting patients to greater expertise and more seamless care. Together, it reflects our ambition to work as one Group to spark positive change and shape the future of healthcare for the communities we serve in Melaka and the region.”

Strengthening Mahkota’s role in Melaka’s healthcare landscape

The hospital’s refreshed name, Mahkota Specialist Hospital, strongly reflects its evolution over more than three decades into a comprehensive tertiary specialist hospital, with a broad range of specialist and subspecialist expertise, multidisciplinary care and advanced medical technology.

Mahkota has been continuously expanding its infrastructure and clinical capabilities to meet the healthcare needs of patients in Malaysia and the wider region. A new hospital block is under development and is expected to make Mahkota the largest private hospital in Melaka by 2029, with capacity of up to 430 beds.

As Mahkota expands its healthcare facilities, clinical services and technological capabilities, its people remain at the heart of healthcare. HMI Medical is investing RM50 million over five years through the HMI Malaysia Healthcare Workforce 2030 Fund to support scholarships, education sponsorships and clinical attachments. The investment aims to equip healthcare professionals with the skills and experience to deliver quality care and meet the evolving needs of patients in Malaysia and across the region.

Shaping the next frontier of cross-border care

According to the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), Malaysia welcomed approximately 1.85 million healthcare travellers in 2025, generating RM3.35 billion in revenue and reflecting continued growth in regional demand for quality healthcare. With more than 32 years of experience serving patients from Indonesia and beyond, Mahkota has played an important role in establishing Melaka as a regional medical travel destination. Its standing was further recognised when it was named one of four finalists in MHTC’s Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital 2025 programme, alongside its inclusion in Newsweek and Statista’s Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific rankings for four consecutive years from 2023 to 2026.

Mahkota’s expansion builds on its strong clinical foundations and internationally recognised quality standards. It is Malaysia’s first and only hospital to achieve three Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seals of Approval, comprising hospital accreditation and two Clinical Care Programme Certifications (CCPC) for Breast Cancer and Chronic Kidney Disease. As the only hospital in Melaka approved for overseas MediSave use, Mahkota also provides Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents with an additional option for eligible hospitalisations and day surgeries, subject to prevailing requirements. Together with its expanding capacity, specialist capabilities and advanced medical technology, these strengths position Mahkota to meet growing regional healthcare needs while reinforcing Melaka’s position as a trusted destination for quality healthcare.

Mr. Stanley Lam, Country CEO of HMI Malaysia, said cross-border healthcare is reshaping Malaysia’s role as a regional healthcare hub. “By investing in clinical capabilities, infrastructure, technology and healthcare talent, we aim to strengthen care for local communities we serve while meeting the growing regional demand. Mahkota Specialist Hospital, Regency Specialist Hospital and Regency Medical Care Centre have built strong reputations in their respective markets, including among international patients. With a stronger shared identity and continued investment in our capabilities, we are well positioned to build on these foundations and extend our reach across the region.”

Through its continued investment in healthcare infrastructure, specialist capabilities and workforce development, Mahkota Specialist Hospital aims to build on its healthcare heritage while contributing to a more connected regional healthcare network.
