Public Forum: ADHD and Alcoholism: Understanding and Seeking Help Early
On October 17, 2023, Mahkota Medical Centre (MMC) took a significant step forward by hosting a public forum dedicated to addressing two issues: ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) about pediatric matters and Alcoholism. The primary goal was not only to gain understanding but also to underscore the pressing need for early intervention in managing these conditions.
This impactful event, titled “ADHD and Alcoholism: Understanding and Seeking Help Early,” was chaired and moderated by Dr. David Yeoh Boon Beng, a distinguished Consultant Psychiatrist in MMC. Joining him as panel speakers were psychiatric professors, Prof. Dr. Vincent Chin-Hung Chen and Dr. Shih-Ku Lin from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, along with Dr. Leung Mana, a Consultant Pediatrician at MMC.
ADHD stands for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. Both Prof. Dr. Vincent Chin-Hung Chen and Dr. Leung Mana have shared valuable insights about the disease, along with tips on how to manage it.
Prof. Dr. Shih-Ku Lin has delivered another interesting presentation on alcoholism, a chronic and progressive condition characterized by an individual’s excessive and uncontrollable consumption of alcohol despite its negative consequences on their physical health, mental well-being, and personal life.
With moderation by Dr. David Yeoh, who has vast experience in managing ADHD and alcoholism patients, this public forum has received an overwhelming response from the public, highlighting the previously limited attention given to these issues. The event was supported by Mahkota Management, including Stanley Lam, CEO of MMC, Teo Chin Yee, Deputy CEO of MMC, and Dr. Chong Mian Yoon, Chief Medical Director of HMI Group.
