Caring for Women

Adopting technology ranging from high-resolution diagnostic imaging tools and other assisted procedures is critical to correct diagnosis and the right treatment.
A small piece of tissue is removed from the body for microscopic examination and testing for abnormal tissues.
- Bone Density Test

A colposcope is used to magnify the cervix area where abnormalities from a pap test or routine examination are identified.
- Pap Smear
Pap smear or a Pap test is a procedure to test for cervical cancer in women which involves the collection of cells from your cervix.
Hysterosalpingography is an x-ray procedure where a dye is injected into the uterus to outline irregularities.
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
An MRI is a scan used to identify uterine fibroids’ location and identify whether you have fibroids or adenomyosis.
- Vaginal Culture
Vaginal culture involves the collection of cervical mucus to identify the cause of an infection.
- Mammogram and Breast Ultrasound
A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breast. Mammography may find tumours that are too small to feel. It may also find ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). In DCIS, abnormal cells line the breast duct, and in some women, may become invasive cancer.
- Dipstick Test (Urinalysis)
A dipstick — a thin, plastic stick with strips of chemicals on it — is placed in the urine to detect abnormalities. The chemical strips change colour if certain substances are present or if their levels are above average.
- Maternal Serum Screening
The maternal serum screening test is a blood test to inform expecting parents of the chance of their unborn child having Down Syndrome, Edward Syndrom or a neural tube defect.
The test measures two substances:
- Pregnancy-associated plasma protein screening (PAPP-A)
- Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)
- Pregnancy Ultrasound
An ultrasound can be used for a variety of reasons during pregnancy. Your doctor may also order more ultrasounds if they detected a problem in a previous ultrasound or blood test.
With close collaboration among clinical specialties ranging from medical, anesthesiology, and surgery, Mahkota Medical Centre offers the best combination of optimum care for women.

- High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)
Entirely non-invasive, HIFU works by targeting deep layers in the skin, using ultrasound to create heat at a deep level in the skin. This heat damages targeted skin cells, causing the body to try to repair them.
- Endometrial Ablation
It is a procedure done to remove a thin layer of tissue, known as the endometrium, that lines the uterus to stop or reduce heavy menstrual bleeding.
Oophorectomy is a surgical procedure to remove one of both ovaries that may be performed due to a tubo-ovarian abscess, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, and benign ovarian tumours or cysts.
- Single-incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS)
SILS replaces the need for open surgery in many clinical scenarios by offering more significant surgery benefits with a single cut, resulting in reduced pain, lower risk of infection, and, less trauma to the patient’s skin and muscles.
- High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)
HIFU works by targeting deep layers in the skin – it boosts new collagen production and collagen regeneration right at the source without surgery.
