Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopy

The GI endoscopy enables the physician to see the inside lining of the digestive tract. The endoscope not only allows the diagnosis of GI disease, but is able to also treat. The procedure is carried out using a flexible fiberoptic tube that is passed through the mouth to view the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum with a miniature camera at the end. The camera is connected to an eyepiece for direct viewing or a video screen that displays a clear image of the digestive tract on colour TV.
