Pathology ![]() The Pathology Unit provides the study of diseases in cells. Through the branches of pathology, cytopathology as well as histopathology services are available at MMC. Cytopathology is the study of disease in cells through smears and aspirates. It can be divided into two categories which is gynaecological cytology and non gynaecological cytology. Gynae cytology is commonly known as Pap smear while non gynae cytology is further divided into fluid based cytology and Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC). Histopathology is the branch of pathology which deals specifically with tissue abnormalities and diseased tissue. Histopathology covers a very wide range of specialties mainly as general histopathology or as more specialise histopathology in areas such as gynaecological pathology, dermatopathology, and gastrointestinal pathology. It involves the understanding of the pathological basis of diseases such as inflammation and repair, neoplasia, degeneration and vascular abnormality.
